Much is written of the challenges facing town and city centres. Rightly, those discussions often focus on availability of parking and the shopping experience. Often missed in the discussion though is exploration of ways in which local businesses can be supported with promotion and the quality of the parking experience.
Existing car park interiors are generally structurally sound but sometimes in need of cosmetic investment. Pillar Protectors can present a cost effective and viable means to provide cost effective promotional opportunities for local businesses, while enhancing the car park interior and creating additional revenue for further investment.
The Local Authority’s car park dates from the 1960’s and, typical of the era, is constructed of poured concrete slab and pillars. It extends over four half-levels and serves both the attached Guildhall Shopping Centre and the city economy.
As a busy car park, the park has suffered its share of damage and alongside a planned deep-clean, the client wanted to find a cost-effective way to enhance the appearance of the car park and improve protection. They were also keen to find ways to attract additional revenue into the car park. After a detailed survey and consultation with the client, Pillar Protector was introduced to meet these multiple objectives.
Pillar Protector is formed from a 30mm recycled and fire-retardant foam core, with a vinyl outer bonded to it that can be printed in full colour and is entirely customisable. In use, Pillar Protectors simply wraps around the pillar and is zipped up on the long edge. It can be designed for any pillar shape or configuration – including steel columns – making it highly versatile while providing a consistent high-quality look and feel to the car park. The Pillar Protectors can be rewrapped periodically to update content or feature integral clean pockets for simple messaging changes.
The Local Authority selected a base yellow colour that was consistent with other themes in the car park and introduced level numbers to aid pedestrian navigation. To provide an advertising opportunity, clear pockets were attached to the prominent sides to allow content to be easily changed. Their in-house team market the space with the aims of both providing cost effective advertising opportunities for local businesses and generating additional revenue from the car park asset.
The Council commented “they are very durable, easy to fit, wipe clean and doing the job they were fitted for – very happy with them!”
Pillar Protectors has successfully delivered on its’ objectives for the local authority. It has provided an enhanced car park interior and the means to generate additional revenue. Marks on the Pillar Protectors soon after installation demonstrate they are already enhancing customer experience by avoiding unnecessary impact damage, while also protecting the building asset from further structural damage.
When considering ways that your car park can contribute to a vibrant visitor experience, Pillar Protectors can be a valuable tool in your tool kit. Improved look and feel of the car park, enhanced experience by eliminating impact damage and the ability to generate additional revenue all deliver a compelling combination.
